How to Debloat Xiaomi Redmi 8 Olive

I don't usually do tech tutorials like this, but I needed to perform this task at some point.

WARNING: I'm not responsible for whatever you do with your device using this guide. These great Xi**mi devices are very unpredictable. If this worked for me, it is not guaranteed to work for you. If you brick your device, that is your fault.

Basic Setup

So, I assume that you've tried to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP recovery and install custom ROM such as Lineage. This would be way better than simply "deconstructing" and "debloating" default MIUI piece by piece. It didn't work for me though (because of device), so I could only do the latter. If you haven't unlocked your bootloader, this may work as well.

  1. Back up your data.
  2. Install ADB-tools on your computer.
  3. Download official ROM (MIUI) image and flash it via ADB. This works better if you have TWRP and an unlocked device. If not, you may either simply wipe your phone data in settings and return to defaults or flash the latest MIUI version using the official desktop app. Basically you want to have a fresh official MIUI and an ability to reisntall it if it doesn't boot.
  4. Enable USB debugging.
  5. Connect your phone to your computer via USB, open up the terminal/command prompt and type

    adb shell

You're now ready to delete bloatware and spyware app by app.

What to Delete

Here's essentially the list of commands to run inside ADB shell to remove certain apps. These apps have been grouped and I recommend you to read through the commands and choose what you really want to uninstall. I've uninstalled all of them months ago and my phone works perfectly fine. I also should mention these articles, as they are really helpful and probably much better than this "guide": list-of-bloated-MIUI-apps; MIUI-package-description; detailed-list; more-apps-to-remove. I couldn't find an XDA post which I owe many of these lines and comments, unfortunately.
